Coffee Notes
1. I’m at week 4 of Get Running and so far so good. I’m a little worried I won’t be able to keep at it after the 9-week program is over, but I guess I have time to figure out how to keep myself motivated to run on a regular basis.
2. My weight this morning was 169.8. Currently, I seem to be fluctuating between about 168 and 171. I started working on my weight about 18 months ago when I weighed over 190. The doctor told me that the slower I lose the weight the better chance I have of keeping it off. I’ve lost weight before, only to gain it back. But this time I feel like I’m doing it the right way and I just might be able to keep the weight off.
3. Bought a new Prius over the weekend. The ride isn’t quite as nice as my old Camry, but it definitely gets better gas mileage (well, it better!). I’m trying to ween myself from constantly looking at the picture that tells me whether I’m in the “eco” zone or not. The more in the eco zone, the better the gas mileage is. But constantly checking is a distraction, which, obviously, is dangerous while driving.
4. I finally broke down and picked up a case for my iPad. It’s just the standard Apple case. For the money, it seemed like the best deal. I like the case, but I hadn’t considered that it adds a bit of weight to the iPad. Holding the iPad in one hand is now not quite as comfortable as it was without the case. I’ll live. I just think it’s interesting.
5. Took the first step toward getting rid of our land-line phone. Connected my Google Voice voicemail to my iPhone. The idea is to treat my Google Voice number as our “home” number. The problem is that we have awful cellphone reception at our hose. So we won’t be able to receive calls on our phones. I can tell people to call the Google Voice number, and it will ring my iPhone, but I won’t get the call because of the lousy reception. But I will get the voicemail. And we screen all of our calls anyway, so I’m thinking there might not be much of a difference. By hooking up my Google Voice voicemail to my iPhone number, I keep all the voicemail in one place. And I can check that voicemail on the web, so I don’t have to rely on cell phone reception to get my messages.
