Baron Rivendare’s Deathcharger
May 7, 2009Baron Rivendare is a boss in Stratholme. On rare occasions, he’ll drop the reins of his Deathcharger as loot. It used to be that the chance of a drop was 1 in 5000. But in 3.0 Blizzard improved the drop rate such that it is now 1 in 100. Meaning that a chance for a drop is actually pretty high, if you run the instance enough times.
I really want Rubeola to have the Deathcharger. The Baron is a Death Knight, so his mount is obviously a Death Knight mount. It doesn’t look like the new Death Knight mounts, though. Instead, it looks like a Skeletal Warhorse (the Undead epic mount). If Rubeola were a Horde character, I probably wouldn’t care as much. I actually have several Horde characters with skeletal warhorses and they look very cool. But Rubeola is human, so her only chance to get an undead horse is from the Baron.
I’ve already run Stratholme about 10 to 20 times hoping to get the mount to drop. But I’m not yet taking it seriously. I just run it every now and then. What I really need to do is run it over and over until the mount drops. I find a run takes approximately 20 minutes. I know there are people that can run it faster, but that’s about as fast as I can manage it. Which means that, in an hour, I can run it about 3 times. Continuing with the math, over the course of 8 hours I be able to run it about 24 times. So, to run it 100 times I guess I’m going to have to devote something like 32 hours to the project. That is a little longer than I’d like. And, of course, there’s no guarantee that the mount will drop even after 100 runs. Or, it could drop on the next run. Such is the nature of random number generators.
So I believe the Deathcharger will be my next project. It remains to be seen whether I’ll really be able to run Stratholme enough times to get the mount to drop. But I wouldn’t be surprised if I manage to get to exalted with the Argent Dawn. A Death Knight who is exalted with Argent Dawn seems perfect irony to me.
